11 Months – sick baby boy

Yesterday, Ridley turned 11 months old! While I’m so happy he is getting older, I am sad that he’s getting older. You know? I cannot believe the next monthly post I make for him will be his 1 year post! It doesn’t seem possible! It feels like just yesterday that he entered our little family. He is such a sweet boy!

Unfortunately, we do not have a chair picture yet because this sweet boy is very much under the weather. He had a double ear infection at Thanksgiving. Well, we have another double ear infection (or could possibly be the same ones that never went away fully…we’ll never know!). Friday, he was a bit more clingy, but still played. But, as it got later in the afternoon, I started thinking maybe he was getting a little on the warm side. He went to bed normally, but then woke up 2 1/2 hrs later…and then just over 2 hrs after that… ร‚ย And, he was getting hotter everytime I went into him. Gave him motrin the 2nd wake-up, changed his diaper, fed him, and prayed for the best. He was up wimpering and crying out throughout the rest of the night. Got up with him again around 5:25 or so in the morning. He was quite hot at this point. Got Stephen to help me get some Tylenol in him. Then, I fed him and rocked him for a while, and laid him back down.

I got up around 7 in the morning and started figuring out where to go for a Saturday clinic. Emailed our pediatrician and she replied and told me there was a walk-in Saturday clinic at our regular clinic with one of the other pediatricians. So, when Ridley woke up, off we went. It was so obvious that he was sick. The doctor we saw was so nice. He checked him out and diagnosed him with the dreaded double ear infections. This doctor actually gave us the antibiotics and told me how to mix them. It’s a different one than we’ve tried before, but it’s been around for a long time, and has proven well for ear infections, and it’s supposed to be less of a bowel irritant (ya know, less diarrhea!). Plus, it tastes good. And, it’s only once a day for 10 days. So, we are praying for a quick recovery, because we have lots to do this holiday season! Plus, who wants to be sick on their first Christmas!?

This set of ear infections has hit him way harder than the ones a month ago. I mean, he is visibly sick and miserable. I don’t think any of our kids have actually looked this sick before with any of their ailments. Poor little guy!! He and I are staying home from church this morning. He’s sleeping, and I sure ain’t gonna wake a sleeping SICK child. He needs the sleep!

Anyway, besides the above, what else is going on with the Ridster, you ask?

*still under 18 pounds according to his quick weight at the pediatrician’s yesterday, but I’m not sure how well of a weigh-in that was, as he was reaching for me the entire time. Not sure he was actually on the scale much… ร‚ย Either way, he’s still a skinny guy! ๐Ÿ™‚

*wears 12 months, but they are big on him by a bit still. He’s ruining my grand plan of buying a bunch of his clothes way ahead from a friend of mine. We may be way out of season in his sizes if he doesn’t speed up on his growing!

*cloth diapers

*jibber jabbers all the time. I think he is our biggest talker so far, which is surprising, if you know our other two when they are in their element.

*into everything he shouldn’t be. the Christmas tree has been quite the interest point for him. And, we had to go back and write all of the to’s and from’s on the presents b/c he ripped all the tags off of them. ๐Ÿ™‚

*puts everything in his mouth…

*says things like da-da, mama, aw-duh (all done)

*eating some baby food now. HA! he eats lots of snacky finger foods, but trying to get him to eat some other things with a bit more health quotient to them. since he won’t eat fruits and veggies as finger foods, we’re trying on the baby food again. he’s doing pretty well on them now! so, he eats his own stuff and then what mommy feeds him with a spoon.

*of course, he’s still nursing. I don’t know when we’ll stop on that. He’s my best nurser, so I will just continue on after a year. Definitely want to at least get him through the winter.

*loves to smile and laugh at his siblings.

*big time momma’s boy. He would rather be with mommy over anyone. He does have a bit of separation anxiety when mommy is not in sight either. Lots of tears at drop-off at Bible class. ๐Ÿ™

*no walking at this point, and I don’t see that coming either. I’m just fine with that. Stephen says he thinks he’s seen him let go and stand for a few seconds, but he is not completely sure. he is a fast crawler though! ๐Ÿ™‚

*everyone makes the same comments about him when they see him–“He has such big beautiful blue eyes!” and if they know Colby, they say, “He looks just like Colby.” ร‚ย I have a hard time seeing how he looks like baby Colby though, because baby Colby was chunky, and Ridley is not. So, it’s hard for me to see the Ridley in the chunky baby Colby. HA!

*still goes to bed around 6pm and has been waking 1-2 times a night since Thanksgiving due to ear infections and then teething. Now that we’re back to ear infections, I don’t foresee him sleeping all through the night for a little while longer. ~sigh~

*as far as teeth, he has 3 teeth on the bottom (middle 2 and 1 to his left of those) and then 4 teeth on the top (middle 2 and then the one to his right of those, and the one to the left of the middle 2 is JUST cutting through). Not sure where that middle right one is yet, but I figure it’ll make it’s appearance sometime soon.

Well, that’s all for now! He is a super sweet boy, but sure doesn’t feel good right now. Hopefully he will be better by Christmas! I’ll add his picture when we can get one without his red eyes and rosy cheeks and tear-stained face. ๐Ÿ™‚

Edited. Here are a couple of pictures we took the day after Ridley turned 11 months old (taken on the 23rd). You can tell he doesn’t feel good, but it was the best we could get at that point.
